Indore is situated on Malwa Plateau in the central part of India. The history of the city is associated with the famous Queen Devi Ahilya Holkar of the Holkar dynasty, well known throughout the country for her noble and pious nature and for her religious achievements.

Indore is the largest city of Madhya Pradesh acting as a prominent educational, industrial and trading centre of the state. It has a population nearing 20 lakhs. It is well connected with Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai by road, rail and air.

Indore has over four thousand small and medium industrial units and over thirty-five large industrial units. It is one of the largest pharmaceutical industry production centres of the country. Its neighbouring area of Dewas has developed into a large industrial city accommodating companies like Tata Exports, Gajra Gears, Ranbaxy Laboratories, Standard Mills, etc. Its adjoining area, Pithampur, is fast developing into "Detroit of India" with the units of leading companies in India like Hindustan Motors, Kinetic Honda, Eicher Motors, Bajaj Tempo, Crompton Greaves, H.R.Johnson, Larson and Toubro (L&T), Bridgestone etc. located therein.
