Global Positioning System
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a constellation of
24 satellites orbiting high in the Earth's atmosphere. It is
satellite-based radio navigation and time infotribution system
that broadcasts position and timing data around the globe, 24
hours a day and in any weather condition. The Global System
for Mobile (GSM) communication is a standard wireless data
network protocol which when integrated with a GPS system is able
to update current location of a system under investigation. This
sort of cellular tracking technology works on the principal of
trilateration. This technology though in its nascent stage holds
great promise for the future and caters for mid range tracking
applications within a mobile phone cell. are space-based radio
positioning systems that provides 24-hour three-dimensional
positioning, velocity and time information to suitably equipped
users anywhere on or near the surface of the Earth. These
systems promised radical improvements to many tracking solutions
that impact all people. By combining GPS with our digital
mapping technology, we will be better able to identify and
manage your assets more effectively.
The advantages of this tracking system can be sub divided in two major
categories namely :
Real-time Tracking - Users can access the
current location of their assets, as they are moving. This
allows live monitoring of asset status. The user may access the
tracking information on a PC or using any mobile phone.
Map-based tracking - To complement these GPS tracking units embedded
inside an asset, a GPS compatible digital map using GSM cellular
modem can survey and grade GPS receivers current location
remotely. The maps may be customized to show service areas and
drop-off points and central updates of the real time movement at
every poling time.
